WHAT'S IN A NAME?

What exactly does Swimmunity® mean? Well, it can actually be a couple of different things. It's the combination of swim + community. Or it can be read as swim(m) + unity. Either way, it gets the job done. Join this community to unite with other adults on our common quest of learning how to swim.

Where are you in the swim lesson decision process?
Deciding whether or not to do it
What motivated you to learn how to swim?
I love being in the water, however I cannot swim. A past girlfriend tried to teach me, and I tried lessons at the Y. Of course I'm fearful of deep water, and have had several negative experiences in the deep from trying. My problem stems from having scoliosis and the corrective surgery that goes with the fuses a large portion of my spine. Most strokes require an arched back. Worse, my legs sink and drag me down. I fear I'll simply never be able to learn. As previous efforts have all failed and my fear is more cemented with ea h failed attempt and near drowning.
Where are you swimming now?
I can't swim.
